Note

Marine corps may represent significant biomass resources for areas with extensive coasts. Florida, a peninsula, has a wide continental shelf where water depths decline very gradually decreasing 1m for every 5 km from the coast. When the Florida coast between the cities of Pensacola and Tarpon Springs was examined for potential areas suitable for seaweed cultivation, 190000 ha were determined to be between water depths of 0.5 and 1.5 m, and 1900 000 between 2.5 and 20 m.
