Note
There is probably no machine used more in the aquaculture industry than the water pump. Pumps are devices that move water by imparting energy to it. While pumps can have a number of applications, and be used with many substances, in aquaculture a pump typically is used to either: 1) move water against a gravitational gradient, or 2) increase the speed of water that is already flowing in the desired direction. In aquatic farming, the proper selection of a pump can be critical, since the wrong choice can result in a pump that is too expensive, has an excessively high operating cost, or might fail at a critical time. Clearly the most commonly used pumps are the centrifugal pumps.
