This dissertation describes the development and
validation of a clinical assessment procedure far nurses.
Use of the procedure will provide a way to evaluate the
clinical aspect of nursing practice. Furthermore, the
teaching methodologies employed in nursing educational programs
may also be indirectly evaluated.
In order to assess specific behaviors of nurses
performing clinical skills, a criterion-referenced measurement
was developed. The procedure has content validity in that it lists the specific criterion measures necessary to perform
basic clinical skills successfully and these lists were
compiled by nurse experts currently in the field. It is
also very economical and easy to administer.
