Note

Long term quantitative studies of particular fish communities within the Indian River Lagoon reveal high species richness in specific habitats. Estuarineocean inlet seagrass meadow fish faunas are ontogenetically coupled with rich nearby ocean reef fish communities and support the richest estuarine ichthyofauna (214 species from seagrasses, 282 from ocean inlets). A biogeographic analysis reveals that freshwater, seagrass and mangrove fish communities have a heterogeneous mix of species with at least 10 different faunal distributional tracks represented.
