Note

The taxonomy of the diatoms living on mangrove prop
roots from the Indian River, Florida was investigated.
Epiphytic diatom samples were collected from June 1980 to
June 1981 at two sampling stations (Link Port and, Jim
Island) at three different tidal levels of the roots.
Temperature and salinity data were taken on each sampling
date. Two hundred and twenty-six taxa representing 60 genera
were investigated. The best represented genera were
Navicula, Mastogloia and Nitzschia. Twelve of these taxa
are new records for the United States of America and a new
combination is presented: Delphineis surirella var. australis.
