Note

The calanoid copepod Labidocera aestiva Wheeler exhibits a ritualized mating behavior. Sensory hairs and spines and integumental pores on the male and female are believed to play a regulatory role in the mating encounter. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed approximately 20 unusual pore structures (pit-pores) on the right ventrolateral surface of the female's abdominal segment, the area where the spermatophore coupling device is attached.
