During the months of August 1977 and 1979, Harbor Branch Foundation, Inc., in cooperation with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, (NOM) Office of Coastal Zone Management and the State of North Carolina, completed an engineering and archaeological assessment, including a photogrammetric survey of the historic Civil War ironclad, U.S.S. MONITOR.
