Morphological, physiological and behavioral aspects of mating in calanoid copepods

Note

The mating behavior of calanoid copepods is precise, ritualized and species-specific. Observations of living copepods indicate that the ritual begins with a chemically induced, mate-seeking behavior, proceeds through various morphologically and physiologically directed movements and orientations of the male with respect to the female, and terminates with the attachment of a spermatophore to a precise location on the female urosome.
