Note

The circulation of Atlantic Ocean waters south of the Florida Keys has been described through a number of observational studies conducted over the past ten years. Lee et al. (1992-1994) showed that flow at and seaward of the reef tract is significantly influenced by the passage of cyclonic gyres that develop off the Dry Tortugas and migrate eastward.
