Lamnoid or mackerel sharks belong to
the order Lamniformes consisting of 16
species in seven families. The sand tiger
sharks (4 species), goblin sharks (1
species), crocodile sharks (1 species),
megamouth sharks (1 species), thresher
sharks (3 species), basking sharks (1
species), and mackerel sharks (5 species)
form a group of basically pelagic species
whose life history and reproductive biology
have been extremely difficult to study.
