Voncile Smith, Ph.D., Founding Chair, Dept. of Communication. 1966 - 2003. She was started FAU's Department of Communication and it became School of Communication and Multimedia Studies. As a woman's rights advocate she worked on the Salary Equity Committee at FAU to achieve compensation parity for female faculty members and the introduction to women's studies program.
