Note
In late July and early August of 1977, Harbor Branch Foundation, Inc., in cooperation with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (N.O.A.A.) Coastal Zone Management Office, completed a photogrammetric survey of the wreck of the historic Civil War ironclad U.S.S. MONITOR. This ship, a forerunner of modern day naval ships, sank in 1862 in 220 feet of water off Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.
