Re-description of the Florida hermit-crab sponge Spongosorites suberitoides Diaz et al., 1993 by Sandford and Kelly-Borges (1997) found the sponge to be greatly more similar, morphologically and ecologically, to sponges in the Suberitidae (Hadromerida), than to Spongosorites (Halichondriidae, Halichondrida).
