Note

Varicus marilynae n. sp. is described from two specimens (each 18.0 mm SL)
taken in coastal Florida waters in depths ranging from 61 to 91 m. The new
species is characterized by a flattened coalescence of the ray tips in the first four
pelvic fin rays and 18-19 lateral scale rows. The head and eye are smaller than
those of V. bucca Robins and Bohlke, the only other known congener, whereas
the pectoral fins are longer.
