Note

This study (i) characterised the algal symbionts of the temperate sea anemones Cereus pedunculatus (Pennant), Anthopleura ballii (Cocks) and Anemonia viridis (Forskal), and the temperate zoanthid Isozoanthus sulcatus (Gosse) (ii) investigated the nutritional inter-relationship between the algal symbionts and these Anthozoa. Light and electron microscopy demonstrated that the symbionts were intracellular dinoflagellates ('zooxanthellae") of the genus symbiodinium.
