In January of 1988, Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution began the
“Field Growout Technology Transfer project for Mercenaria mercenaria.” This
project has been sponsored by the Florida Department of Agriculture and
Consumer Services as part of their Aquaculture Market Development Aid
Program, and the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution. The project would
enable the public to become familiar with the principals and potentials of
clam farming in the State of Florida. This manual is part of that project.
