Note

The disposal of radioactive wastes in the deep ocean will require detailed monitoring and, hence, the development of specialized tools for the collection of biological specimens which are extremely important in tracing radionuclide pathways. Certain biological organisms have an affinity for radionuclides which are absorbed into their bodies. Before further disposal of deep sea wastes, it is necessary to demonstrate the ability to sample the biological community of a disposal site and establish a baseline.
