At top center on front cover, wood-engraving depicts ten people (one of whom is holding a large American flag and one of whom resembles George Washington) at the foot of a rocky hill. On top of the hill is a rotunda with 4 columns labeled, "Liberty." A statue of Liberty is inside the rotunda and, resting on the top of its dome, is an eagle holding in its mouth a banner reading, "E pluribus unum." The words, "Constitution & laws," are printed in large letters across the hill, and a rising sun and semi-circle of stars above it. Printed in two columns divided by single line. On back cover, publisher's advertisement for the daily, semi-weekly, and weekly Tribune, and for the New-York tribune for European circulation, with address of the Tribune Association.
