Born in York, Pennsylvania, Dr. Richard Yinger grew up during the Cold War Era. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. After his military service, Dr. Yinger began his academic career that culminated in receiving a PhD in Sociology from Florida State University. During his college years, he was active in the Civil Rights Movement, participated in the March on Washington, and was involve in anti-Vietnam War protests. In the Spring semester of 1974, Dr. Yinger began his teaching career at Palm Beach Junior College and became well known for his scholarship in a controversial branch of the Sociology known as Exosociology. The interview also explores other topics of Dr. Yinger personal and professional life, such as World War II, desegregation, Korean War, depression, academia, fatherhood, anti-war protester, and anti-nuclear arms peace movement. After 32 years of teaching at Palm Beach Community College, Dr. Yinger retired in June of 2006.
