Note

The objective of the aquatic remediation study is to develop a practical process for the bioremoval of heavy
metals from dilute solutions using aquatic plants and algae as the adsorbent. The study thus breaks down into three
phases: screening aquatic plants to find candidate strains; performing detailed adsorption experiments with these
candidates to provide the biological information needed for process development; and designing and testing a
practical bioremoval system. Only those organisms with which are naturally immobilized (attached algae or rooted
plants) or could easily be separated from suspension (filamentous microalgae, macroalgae, or floating plants) were
screened.
